Maurine Beinbrink from Pindler & Pindler and Karen Wirrig, FIFDA headed north to Pasadena for the 2013 Showcase House. This Monterey Colonial was built in 1941 for $70,000. Approximately 10,000 square feet and originally situated on 4.5 acres, the first owner was C. Lawrence Barker of Barker Brothers Furniture. This is the second time this property has been featured as a Showcase House.
We saw luscious fabrics from Pindler & Pindler, Schumacher and Kravet, incredible custom woodwork, and a relaxing porch swing in a guest room retreat where we could have relaxed all day! The master bedroom, dining room, and guest wing were highlights for us. The family room featured the Lorts hydraulic cocktail table that fascinated visitors. This is a great piece that serves as both a cocktail table when lowered and dining table when raised.
One of our favorite rooms was designed by Intimate Living Interiors Kari Arendsen & Jenn Biby located in Solana Beach. Nice to see San Diego county represented at the showcase.
No photography was allowed inside or out, except at the entrance, so here are a few pages from the catalog. Also included in the paint palette supplied by Dunn-Edwards Paints.
It was a great road trip and we hope you can join us for the next one!
Need another reason to attend the IFDA TAKE A SEAT auction and gala on May 16? Here’s a doozy! Chef Robert Conaway will be preparing tasty treats for event guests. Join us at 6pm on May 16 at Planet Rooth Design Haus, 3334 5th Ave. in San Diego. $20/pp donation at the door for all the music, food, fun, and charity auction to support relief efforts of Hurricane Sandy and Japan Tsunami and IFDA chapter professional development.
Culinary phenom Robert Conaway was born to cook. But more than merely cook, Conaway was born to “create” with food. Globally trained and traveled with experience that spans continents, Conaway is a true “chef’s chef” bringing his intrinsic love of the culinary arts and encyclopedic-like knowledge of edible ingredients, that would rival some of the most famed foodies in the world to the opening team of one of United Arab Emirate’s newest dining hot spots, West 14th New York Prime @ the Oceana Hotel, Spa and Beach Club on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah Dubai.
This intense interest in food was the catalyst for his enrollment in California’s influential Culinary Academy in San Francisco. While attending, Conaway competed in the Livermore Valley Food & Wine Educators Experience where he was selected as a Finalist for the program’s Talent & Technique competition.
Since returning from Dubai he is currently working on two of his own projects, Meekong Street Kitchen his ode to South East Asian street food and QuickFire, a quick service pizza, salad and craft beer joint as well as consulting for a few Southern California restaurants and pubs.
These designers are participating in IFDA Take a Seat beginning May 7, 2013. This is part of an international exhibition being held simultaneously in New York City, San Diego, and Osaka, Japan to benefit relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy and Japan Tsunami. The San Diego exhibit is being shown at Planet Rooth Design Haus, 3334 5th Ave. and is free and open to the public from 10-5 daily through May 16, 2013. Come by to vote on your favorite and then attend the gala auction event on May 16 from 6-9pm where you can bid on that special creation you just can’t live without! You’ll be helping great causes and having fun. $20/pp donation at the door.
